For quite a long stretch I became fascinated with equirectangular imagery, the strange and wonderful process of taking our round world and unfolding it flat. These pieces are full 360 degree images made for virtual reality headsets and were part of the virtual reality museum and exhibition I ran in San Diego for a good while. It was a challenging and exciting time, building the equipment, testing new ideas, and finding ways to make a viewer feel like they were standing right inside the scene.
What you see here are those explorations. Western landscapes, the trail of the California missions, and the custom rigs and tools I crafted to capture these worlds in full circle. It was an adventure in both photography and invention, and these images remain some of my favorite experiments.
